Funai-jo Castle

Oita_Funai_castle.jpg

Oita City has developed at the expense of its history and unfortunately little remains of its past as a samurai stronghold. The ramparts and moat of Funai-jo castle can still be found in the city centre but few of the buildings that once stood within its defences. However, the grounds are used creatively from time-to-time. Most recently, the castle keep was been recreated in an imaginative and original fashion using scaffold poles. When illuminated at night an attractive if unusual spectacle recalled an earlier age.
