The Hell Bar

Hidden within the myriad collection of izakaya restaurants and karaoke parlours at the core of Beppu’s nightlife district is The Hell Bar, a name being a hat tip to the city’s famous Jigoku Onsen hells. It is a popular hangout for the local university student population with music ranging from club music to lounge and everything in between. A short walk away, the owner has recently opened a second venue, Tannel Beppu, a listening bar where jazz records played from an audiophile sound system can be savoured while sipping craft spirits, cocktails or coffee.
