Kengo Kuma

Comico Art Museum

Kuma is the architect of the New National Stadium built for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. An ardent proponent of reinterpreting traditional Japanese construction methods, Kuma is known for his use of timber, which the Olympic Stadium uses on a colossal scale. Other works include the Great Bamboo Wall House in Beijing, LVMH Group Japan headquarters, Osaka; Nagasaki Prefectural Art Museum; Nezu Museum, Tokyo; V&A Dundee, Scotland; Taikoo Li Sanlitun, Beijing; Yusuhara Wooden Bridge Museum in Shikoku, Japan;  Asakusa Culture Tourism Center, Tokyo; Sunny Hills, Tokyo; Cité des Arts et de la Culture in Besancon, France; and Takanawa Gateway Station, Tokyo. In Oita, Kuma created the Comico Art Museum in Yufuin and, most recently, the new Taketa History & Culture Museum.
