Fumihiko Maki Nakatsu

Maki studied architecture under Kenzo Tange at University of Tokyo before going on to study at Harvard University. His body of work includes: the Osaka Prefectural Sports Center; Spiral Building and Makuhari Messe in Tokyo; Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium; Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco; Republic Polytechnic in Singapore; MIT Media Lab extension in Massachusetts; Tower 4 at the World Trade Center in New York; Aga Khan Museum in Toronto; and a design museum in Shenzen. In Oita, Maki has created the Kaze-no-Oka Crematorium and Nakatsu Obata Memorial Library, which are both in Nakatsu. Maki has received amongst other awards for his work the Pritzker Prize and AIA Gold Medal.
